How to move away from Big Tech Content Delivery Networks
Here's a guide on how to migrate away from Azure CDN, Cloud CDN, Cloudflare and Cloudfront.
To migrate from your current CDN, start by auditing and documenting your existing configuration, including DNS records, SSL certificates, origin servers, and cache rules. Create an account with the new CDN provider and set up a pull or push zone, configuring the origin server, cache settings, and SSL/TLS as needed. Test the new setup using a temporary subdomain to verify content delivery, security features, and performance. Once confirmed, update your DNS records to point to the new CDN, ensuring a smooth transition by lowering TTL values in advance. After the switch, monitor performance, adjust cache rules, and update any hardcoded CDN URLs in your applications or CMS. Finally, ensure all third-party integrations and custom logic (e.g., edge functions or security rules) are replicated in the new environment.
