Why Euria is an ethical alternative for AI Chatbots
Euria is a generative AI assistant launched by the Swiss cloud provider Infomaniak in 2025 as a sovereign alternative to Big Tech Chatbots. The name stands for Ethical, Universal, Responsible, Independent and Autonomous AI, and the product's defining promise is that data never leaves Infomaniak's own data centres in Switzerland.
Functionally, it covers the core tasks of a modern assistant: drafting and correcting texts, translating, analysing PDF, Word and Excel documents, interpreting images, transcribing audio recordings, and performing web searches when a query requires current information.
Euria is integrated into Infomaniak's kSuite ecosystem, appearing within kChat, kDrive, the webmail writing assistant and the video-on-demand platform, so organisations that already use Infomaniak's mail, drive and calendar tools obtain AI features without migrating data to a foreign cloud.
Access is tiered: anonymous use without an account, a free lifetime my kSuite account for extended personal use, and kSuite Pro at approximately CHF 22.90 per user per year for organisations.
The company itself is employee-controlled, an ownership structure that reinforces its positioning against the advertising-funded business models of American and Chinese platforms.
The product has attracted a notable controversy: a February 2026 investigation by the NZZ am Sonntag revealed that Euria, marketed as an "ethical" Swiss AI, is built on a Chinese base model and accordingly reproduces Chinese government positions on topics such as Taiwan, the Uyghurs and the Tiananmen massacre, which critics cite as a gap between the marketing promise of European sovereignty and the technical reality under the hood.
